2019 Kogi governorship Election Tribunal:
Court of appeal reserved judgement in Wada, Akpoti and DPP’S appeals

JUDGEMENT HAS BEEN RESERVED IN THE APPEAL FILED BY THE PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY AND ITS GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE, MUSA WADA CHALLENGING THE ELECTION THAT BROUGHT GOVERNOR YAHAYA BELLO BACK TO OFFICE.

IN THE APPEAL WADA’S COUNSEL, JIBRIN OKUTEPA IN HIS ARGUMENT WANTS THE COURT OF APPEAL TO UPTURN THE DECISION OF KOGI STATE GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION TRIBUNAL. HE SAID THERE WERE OVERWHELMING EVIDENCE THAT THE ELECTION WAS MARRED BY ELECTORAL MALPRACTICES .

COUNSEL FOR INDEPENDENT ELECTORAL COMMISSION INEC, ALEX IZINYON URGED THE COURT TO DISMISS THE APPEAL.

JOSEPH DAUDU , AHMED RAJI BOTH REPRESENTING KOGI GOVERNOR AND THE ALL PROGRESSIVES PARTY, APC RESPECTIVELY ALSO ALIGNED WITH IZINYON.

AFTER LISTENING TO THE ARGUMENTS THE FIVE MAN- PANEL OF JUSTICES RESERVED JUDGEMENT IN THE APPEAL.

WADA AND HIS PARTY, THE PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY HAD ON DECEMBER 14, 2019, APPROACHED THE TRIBUNAL, URGING IT TO ORDER THE INDEPENDENT NATIONAL ELECTORAL COMMISSION (INEC) TO DISQUALIFY GOVERNOR YAHAYA FOR THE 2019 ELECTION .

ALSO IN THE APPEAL FILED BY THE SOCIAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY (SDP,) AND ITS GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE NATACHA AKPOTI IS CHALLENGING GOVERNOR BELLO’S ELECTION,
THEY ALSO ALLEGE MASSIVE ELECTORAL MALPRACTICES AND FALSIFICATION OF CERTIFICATES ON THE PART OF THE DEPUTY GOVERNOR , EDWARD ONOJA .

THE COURT ALSO RESERVED JUDGEMENT IN THE APPEAL AND THAT OF THE DEMOCRATIC PEOPLES PARTY, DPP TO A DATE THAT WOULD BE COMMUNICATED TO THE PARTIES.
